Game Preview: FSU vs Samford
A breakdown of the match-up between the Bulldogs and Seminoles from College Football News.
Florida State (0-1) vs Samford (1-0)
FSU will once again host a primetime kickoff this weekend— even if it may not involve a big-name opponent. The Seminoles will welcome the Samford Bulldogs on Saturday evening at 7:20 pm ET, and even though it’s hardly a household name, Samford is one of the better FCS teams in the country.
One Reason Why Samford Will Win
The Bulldogs went off on the Shorter Hawks, with Devlin Hodges throwing for 330 yards and five touchdowns in the blowout win.
Obviously there’s a wee bit of an upgrade in opponent talent, but this is a real deal offense with the ability to put up big number if the Noles are sleepy after just getting their butts handed to them by Virginia Tech on Monday night.
It’s a new year, but Samford wasn’t miserable against Georgia last year and had a strong O thought the year. Now, the passing game should keep pressing a bit.
FSU still has to prove that the offensive line can produce on a consistent basis, and the Bulldogs can get into the backfield.
One Reason Why Florida State Will Win
You don’t think the Seminoles are mad?
After an embarrassing 24-3 stomping against Virginia Tech to open up the Willie Taggart era, this is more than just a paycheck game to tune up for the ACC opener against Syracuse.
Deondre Francois threw three picks against the Hokies, but he was able to push the ball a little bit. Now he’ll get a little more time to work.
85 of the team’s 94 rushing yards came on one Cam Akers run. This is a man-up game for the FSU line and the ground attack.
The offense is about to go off.
What’s Going To Happen
Samford really is a fun, dangerous team that should be able to put up a few points, but FSU is going to get off to a big start, get its first touchdown of the season on its opening drive, and it’ll come up with a cathartic victory after so much frustration on Labor Day night.
Our Fearless Prediction (FSP)
The Noles worked through their laundry list of miscues from Monday night’s loss to the Hokies. Expect them to play with a chip on their shoulder and to come out firing on all cylinders. The Bulldogs will hold tough over the first 2-3 series but the Noles will make enough adjustments and kick it into overdrive, piling up points by the time the final whistle blows.
