We’re down to the Final Four in both tournaments and the drama has been great this season with buzzer beaters, bracket busters, and Cinderella stories.

Are you rooting for Sister Jean and the #11 Loyola-Chicago Ramblers in the men’s tournament?  They are still on a historical path as the first  11-seed to make it to the Final Four.  We’ve also had the first ever #16-seed knock off a #1-seed as Virginia saw their magical season come to a crashing halt right out of the gates.  That killed a lot of brackets before the first weekend of competition was even over.

On the flip side the women’s tournament is playing out on the hardwood just as the selection committee drew it up.  All four #1-seeds are in the Final Four.  But does anyone stand a chance at knocking off #1 UConn who are 36-0 on the season?  The skill level on the court will drive some great match-ups for the final three games of the women’s tournament, you can bet money on that!

Now let’s get down to brass tax.  The Free Sports Press Tournament Challenge.  How did your brackets do?  Did you take advantage of our Second Chance Bracket for the men’s tournament? (the answer to that one is “no”).  Let’s break down how the standings currently sit as we head into the final weekend of tournament play before we crown our bracket champions.

Men’s Bracket

Currently tied for the #1 spot heading into the Final Four are “ShilohAbner 2” and “zcr00 5” with 660pts but zcr00 5 has no more teams left in the tourney so that bracket won’t gain any ground from here on out.  ShilohAbner 2 still has 160pts possible and our bracket of “Free Sports Press 5” is right on their heels with 650pts and 160pts possible remaining.

But there are three brackets left that still have a dog left in the fight.  “Free Sports Press 1“, “zcr00 2” and “MizzouTgr11 4” all have Villanova slated as their champion and could pull ahead to make this bracket interesting.  I guess we’ll see what happens when the nets get cut down as to who that bracket champion turns out to be.

Women’s Bracket

The women’s bracket is a little more “cut-and-dry” thanks to the minimal number of upsets this tournament has endured thus far.  With all the top-seeds playing this weekend and the bulk of the brackets in this tournament picking a #1 to cut down the nets when its all over there really isn’t much wiggle room left at this point.  “Robertw56 high seeds” currently holds the top spot along with “CEREBRAL ASSASSIN 3… 5” who each have 1030pts heading into the Final Four.  Though each bracket has a different champion slated so that could be the deciding factor as their respective picks will go head-to-head on Friday night (UConn vs Notre Dame).

Overall Points Champion

We posted to Facebook, and highly recommended, to create a “2nd Chance” entry to help rebound from busted brackets in the men’s tournament.  No one listened, except us of course.  Right now it’s a head-to-head battle between us and “zcr00” for the title of Overall Points Champion as a mere 40pts separates us both.  It will truly come down to the wire and we look forward to seeing who comes out on top when the dust settles.

Stay tuned as we reveal the winners next week!
