While I try to stay neutral when writing about various sporting events, I still have a bad taste in my mouth when reporting on Tim Tebow.
He did a lot of damage to his SEC opponents as well as Florida State during his time as the QB for the Florida Gators.
And being an avid Denver Broncos fan I now get to sit and watch him each Sunday as he takes the field playing for my favorite professional team as well.
Is this karma playing a cruel joke on me? What have I done to deserve this?
Rivalries aside, I do know that the Broncos are in need of some kind of spark to turn this franchise around.
Several disappointing seasons in a row have made me almost cringe on fall Sundays, not knowing which Bronco team would take the field.
A ray of confidence sparked yesterday watching Kyle Orton lead the Broncos on two fairly productive scoring drive.
Orton wasn't flashy. He simply got the job done on the scoreboard, which is where it counts.
Then it came time to suffer through watching our backups play.
It became painfully obvious just how different the level of talent precision our starters have over the backups.
Brady Quinn's first pass as a Bronco was a touchdown pass, for the Bengals do to an incredibly easy interception return. The defense didn't seem to play much better as the 2nd half wore on.
Then it came time for "The Golden Boy" to take the field.
Tim Tebow's first pass as a Bronco, was to a Bronco and it gained positive yardage.
On the day Tebow had respectable numbers and did score a rushing touchdown on the game's final drive, against a soft defense as the outcome was already decided.
But based on his composure in the pocket after this game I think Tim Tebow has solidified himself as Kyle Orton's backup at the very least.
So while its still hard for me to stomach watching Tebow play for my beloved Broncos, if he can help us get back on track to our "Championship Days" then I'll gladly support him.
