Early reports are beginning to come in stating that Brett Favre, the current Minnesota Vikings QB, plans to call it quits for the third time.
Trying to out-retire Michael Jordan?
A personal message from me to Brett: Quit toying with my emotions. I get overjoyed every time I hear that you're leaving the NFL only to have those dreams shattered upon your return.
I won't shy away from the fact that I've never liked Brett Favre. Is it because of his career with the Packers?
Possibly.
But more so there is just something about him that rubs me the wrong way. I get the same feeling from Tim Tebow.
So while ESPN and every other sports analyst is chomping at the bit over "Will he, won't he" the rest of the nation just has to sit back and realize that the ESPN network has been hijacked over the latest saga in his once-storied career.
Michael Jordan will always be one of "The Greats" in the NBA and he knew when enough was enough.
You haven't entered that status for me, Mr. Favre, so you're really doing yourself a disservice at this point.
My advise to you: Stay retired and enjoy life on the golf course and spending time with your family.
And take Tim Tebow with you.
Update: So the latest in the Favre drama is still not over. Brett spoke with ESPN's Ed Werder that he is still undecided on his NFL future.
Is anyone really surprised?
As it stands Brett is waiting on the health of his surgically repaired ankle to decide whether he'll be playing under center this fall or catching up on his golf swing and working on his handicap on the green.
I do understand his need to take his health very seriously and not wanting to push it too much. He's not in his prime and the recovery time from any surgery lengthens with each passing season.
But do the Vikings want to hang their playoff hopes on an aging, franchise QB that is so "retirement-prone"?
I think Brett needs to take this as a sign that his time at center stage in the NFL-world has come to an end. Its time to let players like Peyton Manning or Jay Cutler take the next generation of QBs take the helm.
Your fans will miss you, Brett, but its time to know "when to say when". Please do the sporting world a favor and hang up your cleats.
