Home Professional CHL Rapid City Rush Defensive Corps Shines in Weekend Sweep Over High-Flying IceMen

Rapid City Rush(Evansville, IN) – Trailing by one goal in the second period, the Rapid City Rush set a season record with three goals in a 1:19 span to topple the Evansville IceMen by a 5-2 margin on Saturday night. The win not only completes the weekend sweep over the top team in the Turner Conference, but gives the Rush a perfect 4-0-0 record on the week. The surging Rush are now within five points of first place in the Turner Conference with just one game left on the current seven-game road trip.

For the second straight night, the Rush got on the board first, this time with the 100th career goal by veteran Jeff Kyrzakos. An excellent stretch pass by Mike Vaskivuo set up Kyrzakos for the breakaway, and the veteran sent a wrist shot over the glove of IceMen goaltender Pier-Olivier Pelletier. Evansville responded with a pair of goals to take their first lead of the game, the first coming on a breakaway by Brian Bicek at 11:08. Veteran Philippe Plante potted a second-straight powerplay goal at 15:14 to give the IceMen a 2-1 lead heading into the second.

The Rush bounced right back with three goals in a 1:19 span, serving as the fasted trio of goals scored this season. The first came at 6:14 from Mike Vaskivuo who became the seventh Rush skater to reach double-digit goals with nifty toe-drag around a defenseman before snapping a shot inside the right post. Shawn Limpright potted his 19th of the season at the 7:07 mark, dancing around a defenseman and Pelletier and eventually firing a shot to the top-right corner to regain the lead. Only 26 seconds later, rookie Patrick Knowlton potted his second of the season and second point of the night to double the lead.

Both goaltenders stood tall in the final period, but Shawn Limpright sent in an empty-net goal to give Rapid City the 5-2 decision. With the goal, Limpright becomes the third Rush player this season to reach the 20-goal plateau, joining Jesse Schultz and Konrad Reeder.

The Rush have now won four straight games on the road, the longest streak of the season for the squad.
