Home Professional CHL Rapid City Rush Rush Drop Game Three, 5-2

Rapid City RushFrom Rapid City Rush.com:

(Allen, TX) – The Rapid City Rush lost game three of the President’s Cup Finals by a score of 5-2 against the Allen Americans.  Colton Yellow Horn netted a hat trick while Justin Bowers sent home two to pace all skaters.  The Rush now trail the best-of-7 series 2-1 with game six slated for Friday at 6:30pm MST.

The Americans won the opening period, powered by a pair of goals from leading scorer Justin Bowers who picked up his 9th and 10th of the playoffs.  The first came at 2:10 while on the powerplay when a centering attempt by Bruce Graham was knocked down by Danny Battochio, but Bowers was there to poke the loose puck home.  He then struck again at the 13:38 mark off of a cross-ice pass from Erik Adams that was one-timed home for the 2-0 lead.

The second period was much of the same, but this time it was Colton Yellow Horn who scored two goals for the Americans.  His first came just 1:33 into the period while shorthanded and the second was an even strength tally at 10:10.  Two minutes later, the Rush stopped the bleeding when Brendan Cook fired a wrist shot home for his 5th of the post-season, making it a 4-1 game heading into the third.

In the final frame, the Rush would cut the lead to two off a Scott Wray slapshot from the left circle that found the top-right corner with more than seven minutes left.  The Rush were unable to find the back of the net from that point on, and with an empty net on the other side, Yellow Horn completed his hat trick and sealed the 5-2 win.

The Rush now trail the series 2-1 with Game 4 set for Friday at 6:30pm MST.

Editor's Notes:
Unfortunately this series is playing out completely opposite of the Conference Finals, in which the Rush would win-lose-win etc.  They started this series off with a loss and are alternating the Ws and Ls ever since.  With our backs to the wall and still two games left to play in Allen, TX the pressure is now squarely on the Rush to win Game Four or face defeat on our opponents home ice.

We need to keep constant pressure on the Americans; cleaning up all rebound shots and overpowering the Americans by checking them into the boards repeatedly.

Without a superior effort in Game Four I do not see the Rush making it out of Texas to bring the series back home.
