As the dust settles on "National Signing Day" the Florida State Seminoles find themselves in a familiar situation.
Boasting, yet again, one of the top recruiting classes in the nation.
Jimbo Fisher is doing an outstanding job at returning to a philosophy that worked in Tallahassee for so many years under former head coach Bobby Bowden.
"There's no need to rebuild if all you have to do is reload."
That rhetoric is becoming more the norm for the team that once dominated the ACC and was a national title contender throughout much of the 90's.
At the time of this article Jimbo Fisher and Company landed 18 commits in this year's class with one "in the wings", which may be down in numbers from last year (29) but they still pulled together a high level of ESPNU's Top 150, including the top-rated player in the nation in Mario Edwards Jr.
Top 5 Impact Players:
- Mario Edwards Jr (DE, Denton, TX): Listed as ESPN's top player overall in this year's recruiting class Edwards is a big, strong, physical athlete that will added both speed and power to the D-line. Mike Stoops has to be elated with this addition. Opposing offenses should bring up tape of the '96 season to see just how scary good that defense was because this one may be even more terrifying.
Recruiting Videos | Scouts Report - Eddie Goldman (DT, Washington DC): We almost listed Eddie as the Noles top impact player from this year's class. Judging how good Edwards is, you know that puts Eddie in elite company. And judging from the reaction of the "War Room" when he announced he was signing with Florida State, he's a welcomed addition to the D-line and will compliment Edwards in every way possible. Opposing runningbacks and quarterbacks should consider themselves to be officially "put on notice".
Recruiting Videos | Scouts Report - Jameis Winston (QB, Hueytown, AL): The only player to make our Top 5 list that is still not "official" yet. Odds are he'll wait until Friday or possibly into the middle of next week before he makes his decision public. But all leanings are towards Tallahassee.
"I just want to bring that swag back to Florida State, like Deion Sanders and Charlie Ward back in their days," Winston said. "Start something new, start a new trend. It's a new year. It's time for another program to get back."
Why the wait? He's not trying to pull another Terrelle Pryor. He just wants to be back home when he becomes a Seminole for good. He wants to be with his family, the people who had his back even when he decided he needed to leave the state of Alabama for college."They've been there through this whole process with me," he said. "I would feel more comfortable with them being there and being able to look at their faces when I get done."
Recruiting Videos | Scouts Report - Chris Casher (DE, Mobile, AL): He only played in one game his entire senior season, the Under Armour All-America Game, due to getting his academics in line. It paid off as he played with consistency and had an awareness of the ball that helped his signing-stock. He dished out the hits with two tackles and even took a blindside hit himself while trying to tackle the opposing QB. Look for this 6'5" 236lb end to make a name for himself at the next level.
Recruiting Videos | Scouts Report - Marvin Bracy (WR, Orlando, FL): This kid has Olympic-caliber speed which is something the Seminoles could definitely take advantage of as EJ and future QBs look to open up the passing game. And with a guy this quick it will definitely go a long way in keeping opposing CBs and MLBs honest. When that happens then look for the running game to take off as well.

The Best of the Rest:
- Ronald Darby (CB, Oxon Hill, MD): 5'11" and 176lbs
- Mario Pender (RB, Cape Coral, FL): 6'0" and 190lbs
- Justin Shanks (DT, Prattville, AL): 6'3" and 310lbs
- Ukeme Eligwe (ILB, Stone Mountain, GA): 6'2" and 208lbs
- PJ Williams (S, Ocala, FL): 6'0" and 180lbs
- Sean Maguire (QB, West Orange, NJ): 6'2" and 195lbs
- Dalvon Stuckey (DT, De Funiak Springs, FL): 6'2" and 300lbs
- Reggie Northrup (OLB, Jacksonville, FL): 6'2" and 215lbs
- Christo Kourtzidis (TE, Orange, CA): 6'4" and 240lbs
- Colin Blake (CB, San Antonio, TX): 6'2" and 180lbs
- Roberto Aguayo (K, Mascotte, FL): 6'0" and 193lbs
- Cason Beatty (K, Charlotte, NC): 6'3" and 225lbs
- Daniel Glauser (OT, Rheinfelden, Switzerland): 6'6" and 320lbs
- Menelik Watson (OT, Manchester, England): 6'6" and 325lbs
The only let down on the day was the loss of Dante Fowler Jr who went with Florida at the last minute. The loss, though, won't sting that bad since Jimbo was able to secure five other defensive linemen.
And who happened to notice the international flair this year? These two big-bodied JUCO transfers could definitely beef up Coach Trickett's O-line in a hurry. Wider running lanes and better pass protection is always a plus to have when you're looking to increase your offensive production.
Our Final Thoughts:
While this year's class is down from 2011 you can't knock the level of talent the Noles have signed heading into their spring practice schedule. And while I'm a firm believer of not ranking a class based on what they've done in high school you can't deny that, on paper, the Seminoles are on their way to writing themselves back into the National Title hunt on an annual basis.
