The votes are in and the Preseason 2010 USA Today Coaches Poll is now in the books.
Defending National Champion Alabama claims the top spot with 55 votes while Ohio State claimed the other 4 1st-place votes to come in at #2. Florida, Texas, and Boise State round out the Top 5 this year.
The Virginia Tech Hokies, picked by the media to win the Coastal Division and the ACC Title comes in at #6 with the former Mountain West Conference favorite TCU close behind at #7. Oklahoma leads the way for the (once) Big 12 at #8 and Big Ten newcomer Nebraska starts out at #9. Fellow Big Ten member Iowa rounds out the Top 10.
While I've grown less and less concerned about FSU's starting place in each year's preseason poll, I was happy to see the voters get the Seminoles some love by ranking them at #20 to start the season. But with our second game being played in a Top 10 venue we'll be able to see just how much of that hype Florida State will be living up to this season.
The ACC did get some great representation, though mostly from the Coastal Division, as five (5) teams are ranked in the Top 20. Only the Big Ten can match that number as the SEC does have sex (6) teams in the Top 25 but only four (4) are ranked in the Top 20.
The Top 25 fills out like this:
- Alabama (55)
- Ohio State (4)
- Florida
- Texas
- Boise State
- Virginia Tech
- TCU
- Oklahoma
- Nebraska
- Iowa
- Oregon
- Wisconsin
- Miami (FL)
- Penn State
- Pittsburgh
- LSU
- Georgia Tech
- North Carolina
- Arkansas
- Florida State
- Georgia
- Oregon State
- Auburn
- Utah
- West Virginia
