Florida State has produced two Heisman Trophy winners, and one runner-up in school history. Both of those winners also have a national championship on their resume.
These are things that senior quarterback Christian Ponder would love to have on his resume.
But if push comes to shove, he'll take a Conference Title or National Title over a Heisman trophy any day of the week.
That hasn't stopped Florida State from running its first official Heisman campaign for the best quarterback to play for the Garnet and Gold since Weinke's days back in 2000.
Will it help #7 raise the trophy in New York's Downtown Athletic Club this December?
It won't hurt.
But what Ponder really needs to focus on is his team's production on the field. Being the strong leader we all know he is and help guide this veteran offense and young defense back to the glory days of old.
Get back to the ACC Championship (and winning it wouldn't hurt either) and be in contention for the BCS Championship game throughout the season and you can almost guarantee Christian will atleast get an invite to the Heisman Presentation. If his numbers are solid and FSU has won the game's its supposed to (convincingly) as well as games that are in doubt (ie Oklahoma and Florida) then its not hard to believe that Christian will be striking a Heisman pose of his own.
But first things first.
Get the job done where it counts the most.
