SD Mines Signs First Wave of Football Recruits

SDSM&T Hardrockers RAPID CITY ---The South Dakota School of Mines and Hardrocker football head coach Stacy Collins are pleased to announce the signing of eight top-notch football recruits and welcome them to the program Wednesday as part of the NCAA National Signing Day.

The Hardrockers did very well, getting talent from not only South Dakota, but even more locally as two recruits are from Rapid City --- Taton Bolton (St. Thomas More) and Mike Norberg (Rapid City Central). They will be joined by Brookings High School standouts Jacob Erikson and Bryson Nelson. SD Mines also brought in talent from Wyoming, Arizona and Colorado on the NCAA National Signing Day.

“I’m excited to announce our initial class of Hardrockers,” Collins said. “This is a quality group of young men, both on and off the field. We were able to sign four South Dakota High School Seniors and two of them from Rapid City.”

RAPID CITY --- SD School of Mines football team earned a much needed and well deserved win Saturday afternoon defeating Dakota State University, 42-17, on Dunham Field at O'Harra Stadium in Rapid City which was the last home game for the senior football players as well as Hardrocker head coach Dan Kratzer. Earlier this week Kratzer announced his retirement at the end of the 2011 season.

The Hardrockers had a well balanced offensive attack collecting 264 rushing yards to go along with a passing attack that netted 229 yards. The win gives SD Mines its first of the season with a 1-8 overall mark while the DSU Trojans fall to 1-8 after breaking a 17-game losing streaks a couple of weeks ago.

The Hardrockers got scores from junior Jaryd Francis on a 26-yard touchdown strike from senior Nick Russell, followed by a 48 yard TD pass from Russell to junior Bernis Berber, a three-yard rush by senior Colen Kling for another score, a 40 yard TD reception from Russell to junior Dusty Daniels, a 40-yard keeper from senior Dustin Meneley and a two-yard goal-line dive from freshman Pat Bloeman at the end of the game. Andy Smith made good on 4-5 PAT and Russell connected with junior Marshal Davis for a two point conversion.

Sioux Falls Dismantles Winless Hardrockers

SDSM&T Hardrockers The South Dakota Mines football season hit a new low on Saturday, and it’s one the Hardrockers hope isn’t repeated anytime soon.

A trip to the University of Sioux Falls resulted in a 71-0 whitewash in favor of the Cougars. Mines dropped to 0-8 on the season. The Hardrockers have been outscored 169-13 the past three weeks.

Mines fumbled five times on the evening and lost two of them, and Mitchell Syverson was 5-of-12 through the air for 39 yards and two interceptions.

Jamie Dale was held to 39 yards rushing on 18 carries, and Lukas VanLacken had eight carries for 27 yards. Dale was the only Mines receiver with multiple catches, as he had three receptions for 18 yards.

SD Mines Football Falls to Minot, 38-7

SDSM&T Hardrockers RAPID CITY --- Devastating penalties and untimely turnovers put the SD Mines football team behind the eight ball Saturday afternoon which Minot State was able to capitalize on as the Hardrockers fell to the MSU Beavers, 38-7, on Dunham Field at O'Harra Stadium in Rapid City.

Despite being able to move the ball up and down the field, the Hardrockers were unable to find the end zone until the fourth quarter when freshman running back Jeff Faulk powered his way in from two yards out. Senior Andy Smith provided the point after.

Minot State scored seven points in the first quarter, 21 in the second period, tacked on seven in the third and added a field goal in the final frame.
