LOS ANGELES -- Purple and gold confetti raining down upon him, Kobe Bryant hopped up on the scorer's table, shook his fists and extended five fingers.
When he hopped down, Boston's legendary Hall of Fame center Bill Russell was waiting to shake his hand.
A Game 7 classic -- and this time, it finally went the Lakers' way.
Bryant, the Finals MVP, scored 23 points despite 6-of-24 shooting, and the Lakers won their 16th NBA championship Thursday night, dramatically rallying from a fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Celtics 83-79 in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
Florida State to Face TCU in CWS

OMAHA, Neb. - Florida State, which is appearing in its 20th College Word Series, will face TCU, which is making its first ever CWS appearance, in the opening game of the 2010 CWS on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (ET) at Rosenblatt Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN. The 64th Annual College World Series will be played from June 19-29/30 in historic Rosenblatt Stadium and will mark the final time the event will be played at the venerable stadium which has played host to the event since 1950.
FSU Wins Super Regional, Returns to Omaha

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Florida State is going back! For the 20th time in school history, the Seminoles are headed to Omaha. Twelfth-ranked Florida State (47-18) secured a spot in the College World Series with a 7-6 victory over No. 17 Vanderbilt (46-20) Sunday afternoon in front of a crowd of 4,225 on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles led throughout but had to hold off a relentless Commodore squad that scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run at first. But Mike McGee slammed the door shut striking out Joe Loftus for the final out of the game.
Walk-Off HR Lifts FSU to Super Regional Victory

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Twelfth-ranked Florida State (46-17) opened the Tallahassee Super Regional in walk-off fashion Friday afternoon thanks in large part to Mike McGee's walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to give the Seminoles a 9-8 victory over No. 17 Vanderbilt (45-19) in game one of a best-of-three games series. With two outs and the game tied at eight in the bottom of the ninth, McGee stepped in and took a 0-1 pitch from Vanderbilt's Chase Reid (4-2) over the fence in right center for his third game-winning hit of the season and second walk-off home run. It marked his third career walk-off home run, while the Port St. Lucie, Fla., has had the deciding hit in three of FSU's four walk-off victories this year.

CHL Announces Participating Teams for 19th Season

(Tempe, Arizona) - The Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced the participating teams that will compete in the league’s 19th season beginning on Friday, October 15, 2010. Although some material matters still remain to be worked out with the International Hockey League (IHL), the CHL will welcome four teams from the IHL who will join 13 returning CHL teams for the 2010-11 season. The participating teams will compete in two conferences during the season. The four existing IHL markets will be the three-time defending Turner Cup Champion Fort Wayne Komets, the Bloomington PrairieThunder, the Dayton Gems and the Quad City Mallards. “The CHL and IHL are working on all the logistics of this groundbreaking association between our two great leagues,” said Michael Franke, IHL Chairman of the Board. “Everything is moving along well and we are very excited about the end result that could be formally announced soon. It has been a complete pleasure working with the entire Central Hockey League.”

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - And then there was one...the Tallahassee Super Regional will come down to one final game on Sunday, June 13 as No. 12 Florida State (46-18) fell to Vanderbilt (46-19) 6-2 Saturday afternoon on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium. The loss snapped FSU's seven game winning streak, while the winner on Sunday will advance to the College World Series. "I'm very pleased with the effort from our guys," said head coach Mike Martin. "We just came up a little short. What advantage we had we know now is gone by the board and it's a so called level, even situation and you again have to say to Vanderbilt `Well done,' they did an outstanding job."
USC Punished with Two-Year Football Postseason Ban

LOS ANGELES -- The NCAA threw the book at storied Southern California on Thursday with a two-year bowl ban, four years' probation, loss of scholarships and forfeits of an entire year's games for improper benefits to Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush dating to the Trojans' 2004 national championship. USC was penalized for a lack of institutional control in the ruling by the NCAA following its four-year investigation. The report cited numerous improper benefits for Bush and former basketball player O.J. Mayo, who spent just one year with the Trojans.
