WEST VALLEY CITY, UT – The Rapid City Rush got on the board first but the Utah Grizzlies roared back with four unanswered goals to top their divisional foes 4-1 on Friday night.
Nick Miglio got the new year started off right for the boys from the Black Hills. He took the feed from Terrence Wallin for a 2-on-1 opportunity before blasting the puck by Grizzly netminder, Troy Redmann at 8:32 of the opening frame.
Adam Morrison was able to keep Utah off the scoreboard as he stonewalled all 10 shots he faced in the opening 20 minutes.
The bounces wouldn’t be as kind to the visiting netminder over the final 40 minutes.
Utah was able to knot the game at 1-1 at 13:33 of the middle frame. There was a mad scramble for the puck in front of the Rush net with Morrison standing strong before Erik Bradford got the loose puck into the net. Moments later, Utah would take the lead when Ralph Cuddemi went high on Morrison to pocket the eventual game winner, a short handed goal, at 15:18 of the same period.
Utah continued to pour on the pressure in the final 20 minutes when Bradford scored his second goal of the night, and sixth on the season, at 7:02 when he found another rebound attempt to send by Morrison.
Not to be outdone, Cuddemi would get another goal on the night, his 10th on the season, at 11:46 to give the home team a 4-1 advantage.
Redmann gets the win stopping 23-of-24 shots faced on the night while Adam Morrison takes the loss stopping 24-of-28 shots faced.
Both teams will square off for “Round 2” of this five round bout to open the new year. Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm MT at the Maverik Center.
