Not sure where to even begin with this one. I’ve put off discussing this new logo since the news first started to break yesterday after the photo from a Wal-Mart t-shirt was released and quickly went viral across numerous sports websites and blogs.
As most of you know, FSU is updating it’s logo and has been working alongside Nike for the better part of two years to design it.
At first I was completely open to the idea of change with many mock-ups swirling around the blog-o-sphere. Those logos were tasteful, they kept true the original concept of the Seminole Head, and gave it an updated and modern look.
Nothing wrong with any of that.
Yet the logo that has been released (accidentally) to the public seems to go a different route.
From my understanding, the Seminole Nation was a major driving force in updating the logo as they felt it gave a negative light on their people. That the original facial expression is one of anger.
So in hopes of giving it a more appealing look and feel that wanted to give it the expression of celebration or joy. Do you think they captured it with this new look?
The press this logo has garnered has not been the response the University was hoping to receive. I believe the best comment I’ve read has been from a Gator fan stating this is the face the Seminoles will be making after the Gators take a bite out of them this year.
Numerous online petitions have sprung up requesting the University to not go ahead with these changes, but those requests may fall on deaf ears if this update is being spear-headed (no pun intended) by the Seminole Nation.
If this cannot be changed. If this is the new “Face of FSU” then we have no choice but to embrace it.
I’m asking the Seminole Faithful, the Unconquered Army, the true fans of Florida State to use this as a call to arms.
Don’t let the logo detract you from the business at hand.
We are the defending National Champions for football. We have an outstanding athletic program that garners national honors in numerous sports including swimming, track and field, basketball, baseball, softball, and soccer to name a few.
Let’s rally around our school, our athletic program, our athletes and show them the support they so richly deserve due to the amount of time, effort, and energy they put into bringing those accolades to Tallahassee.
Let’s show the country we are united. We are unconquered. We are Noles for Life!
